A few missing

Jathbee, Ispy and Ann. Probably more. Hope they will be back soon to contribute.

Possibly, not.
Some, I knew from my younger days and it was good to come across them after years away. But, even though they were regular contributors to this site, they chose to stop.

A few chose to stop because they got fed up of various members who turned a thread into a back biting contest We can all post mistakes and I hope members can help to rectify the mistakes. We have members who are like vultures on a fence and cannot wait for certain members to post something then not only pull the post apart then think its fun to have a go about the member Myself either I am thick or thick skinned or both and can take it or leave it. You all know the old saying "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me" I will not put anyone on ignore but can chose to ignore any comments posted. Maybe the GOOD posters will have a change of heart and start posting again

Peter, I'm not sure that they will. Possibly, most of them have completely moved away from this site.
Many things can become addictive and this is not only the things we become aware of due to being regularly informed about, such as: smoking, drugs, alcohol...
Computer games and Internet sites can become addictive and if one of these plays a vast importance to that person's life, then the occasional need turns into necessity.
But! If this necessity is broken and replaced by other interests, then there is the great possibility that the person avoids that interest which once dominated their time and emotions.

Peter, I think the same as you, read what Owd Codger said at the end of the Rishi Sunak thread.

I read earlier that Ann has been unwell, she looks in but unable to post.
So nothing to do with other posters. If you are looking in Ann, I hope you
are feeling better, also Ispy if I remember correctly had been in hospital. I think he said he didn't think much of hospital food.

First Mate, I was going to type a number of reasons why some have left or have chosen not to contribute. But, I decided not to bore people with my long list, which probably would have been too long and filled with unpleasant facts.

Quite a time ago, I became aware that many members were not in their early years. As this was quite some time ago, it is realistic to say that some may not be as healthy or as strong as they once were and some may no longer be with us. Sadly, time sometimes brings changes which aren't welcomed.

ianp "Unpleasant facts" There's a certain member who delights in provoking people. An example was last night on the "Daft things thread" He has me on ignore but I've done nothing to warrant it. I just asked a question. He has made his mind up that I'm someone who he also has on ignore.[there's a few of them]. If he were to offer to take me off ignore, I'd complain vociferously.
Back to topic, Jathbee always seemed to hold her own, hope she is back soon.

First Mate,
I'm always attacked by one WW member. But, I must add, he attacks many.

To bring up the topic of this thread, I have greatly considered, on some occasions, of leaving.

I often feel tempted to ask Ron to remove me from the list of members.

WW experience can prove exasperating.

Back when I used one of the other sites, I usually referred to this one as 'Fight Club'!

Spats have frequently broken out between members, maybe that is inevitable on a site such as this. And we certainly need to be free to disagree with comments posted.

You clearly do need to be thick skinned. A number of times posters clearly have not been, and have not lasted very long.

However, some have turned WW into a site for continuing running feuds. It matters little what is said, the opportunity for abusing the person regarded as opponent will be seized.

I think this has seriously undermined the value of this site to members. You will often find excellent discussions taking place in the comments section of 'Album', where the contributors will share with you their distaste for participating in these 'message board' sections.

As a number of relatives have passed away in recent years, WW (and possibly, 'Uncle Joe's Mint Balls) has become the only link I now have with my home town.

Maybe I will also have to give up this final link.

"WW experience can prove exasperating."

It certainly can! Also, it can be upsetting. I don't mind being involved in a strong debate and for people to disagree with me, but... Well, I am quite sure that most of you know what I mean.

Ena don't give up and let the idiots grind you down Carry on posting and do like I do an ignore the snide comments. If they are trying to pull me to pieces they are leaving the decent posters alone, Maybe its time some members were reminded of the rules of the site the 1st rule being "Do not Attack or Provoke others" and if they do not adhere by these rules make them inactive. We do not need to lose decent posters because of half a dozen idiots

That’s the problem you see Peter. It’s all one sided.

You might see decent posters, others see provocative s**t stirrers. It all depends on who your mates are.

After all this is Wigan World and as we all know it’s not what gets said that is the issue, it’s who says it.

Peter, it is sometimes very difficult for some people. We are all different and are emotionally affected in different ways.
I commend you on the way you deal with the unpleasantness.

Stardelta's last statement about "the person who says it", seems to be true many times.
To the best of my knowledge, I personally don't know any person who now contributes to this site and so I cannot claim friendship influences my words. But, we tend to treat others in the way they treat us.

There may be another side to it Peter. Perhaps people are just fed up seeing other people constantly moaning and whinging. Mainly about but not limited to….

Asylum seekers.
Immigration
The Government
The council
The Labour/Tory party and associated MPs
Muslims
Foreign cultures etc etc

Or questionable jokes about….,,
Hitler and serious illnesses and afflictions such as Parkinson’s and aids.

Or comments from self righteous willy wavers desperately trying to appear funny, interesting, important and generally superior to everyone else but failing miserably.

Just a thought

See what I mean Peter?

Two of the biggest troublemakers WW has ever known. One of whom actually said he wanted to pi** on Ron’s grave! yet……Tom believes they were decent posters and wants to see them back.

And as we all know Arfur is Tom in disguise

You couldn’t make it up!!

Be careful…..very careful, what you wish for!!
